Stand-alone Stretching Programs are shown in recent research, using populations of 400+ employees, to be less effective than an integration with a Total Injury Prevention Training Program...

The benefit of stretching as it relates to reduced injury rates and musculoskeletal disease (MSD) is somewhat controversial. This is because no single approach or solution has been shown to have an overwhelming effect on reducing injuries. New research shows that a stretching regimen/suggested “routine” is not enough. A structured employee stretching program, combined with a more comprehensive ergonomics process, has a greater positive impact in reducing MSDs. 

In practice, this means the integration of the “human factor” in ergonomic and safety training programs is critical to successful injury prevention. A combination of “quality metrics” such as employee feedback surveys to ensure positive results, and a commitment ("buy-in”) from management and leadership on-site are KEY to injury and MSD prevention.
