About $635 billion is spent annually in health care costs and lost productivity. Furthermore, for every one medical treatment provider, there are over 28,500 patients with chronic pain. Even worse, only four medical schools in the entire country require a course on patient pain management, and fewer than 20 offer it as an elective credit.
