USDA Announces $211 Million Conservation Plan for Sage Grouse

Posted By Chris Greissing, Thursday, August 27, 2015
The United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service announced that it was planning to invest $211 million in sage grouse conservation through 2018.  The extensive plan is known as Sage Grouse Initiative 2.0.  It is an investment strategy for the next four years, and is a follow-up to its 2010 Sage Grouse Initiative.  $93 million of that money will be used in habitat restoration through EQIP, $100 million more going to conservation easements through ACEP and the remaining $18 million going towards partnerships with ranchers and other partners to implement conservation actions on the ground. One area that will see more attention this time will be efforts to combat invasive weeds that have helped fuel intense wildfires in recent years that have charred prime sage grouse habitat.
