Following the Senate Committee Energy and Natural Resources hearing on the American Mineral Security Act (S.883), IMA-NA submitted a statement of support for Senator Murkowski's bill to the record. S.883 and its companion bill in the House, Representative Amodei's National Strategic and Critical Minerals Production Act (H.R.1937), contain promising measures to spur reinvestment in minerals science, information, and domestic development of resources. As a member of the Minerals Science & Information Coalition (MSIC), IMA-NA signed onto a statement supporting the aspects of Senator Murkowski's bill related specifically to the minerals science programs housed at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the development of forecasting tools. In addition to the pieces of S.883 focused on increased support for the important work of USGS, IMA-NA voiced support for an improved permitting process. If enacted, S.883 would remove inefficiencies in the permitting process by streamlining the duplicative aspects and creating set timeframes for review. Senator Murkowksi and Representative Amodei's commitment to increased development of domestic resources is laudable and IMA-NA is pleased to see legislative action supporting the minerals industry as a whole.
