New Freight Rail Reporting Requirements Take Effect

Posted By Chris Greissing, Thursday, October 23, 2014
The Surface Transportation Board (STB) recently ordered that the nation’s major freight railroads must provide weekly reports to the Board.  These weekly reports that the Class 1 Railroads are required to submit must include the following information: the systemwide average train speeds, the reasons for significant delays on the network, and other performance issues.  This was the result of complaints to the Board from shippers who were frustrated over backlogs and other service disruptions.  This will provide weekly metrics on rail service to the public, which the Board hopes will help provide a clearer picture to servicing issues being experienced.

The data will be available here.
