Environmental

Greenhouse Gas Calculator

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized a rule for a national greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting registry.  The program will begin on January 1, 2010 and will establish monitoring, reporting and record keeping requirements for “fossil fuel and industrial GHG suppliers, motor vehicle and engine manufacturers, and facilities that emit 25,000 metric tons or more of CO2 equivalent per year will be required to report GHG emissions data to EPA annually,” according to an EPA statement.  The program will cover 85 percent of the country’s emission sources and will affect some 10,000 facilities.  The first annual reports must be submitted to EPA by 2011.  A calculator tool, available by clicking here, will help determine if a facility meets the 25,000 metric ton of CO2 equivalent per year threshold for reporting.
